Movies in the Parks: SELENA @ Indian Boundary Park

The Chicago Park District's Movies in the Parks series rolls out SELENA at Indian Boundary Park tonight — the 1997 biopic of Tejano star Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, with Jennifer Lopez in the title role. It's an outdoor screening under the stars, rated PG, running 127 minutes, and closed-captioned.

Admission is free, all ages, and the movie starts at 7:30 PM (it runs to about 9:37). Tonight's forecast is warm and dry — a high near 87, overcast skies and just a 5% chance of rain, dropping into the low 60s after dark — so bring a blanket and a layer for the second half.

Wicker Park Fine Art Fair @ Wicker Park

Now in its second year, the Wicker Park Fine Art Fair takes over the triangle of public land the neighborhood is named for. The pitch, per the organizers, is that the focus here is truly on the art — a low-key fair without performance stages or beer tents, just the work and the people making it.

It runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, and admission is free — an easy, unhurried couple of hours if you want to actually look at the work.

Robyn – The Sexistential Tour @ United Center

Robyn brings The Sexistential Tour to the United Center tonight — a Saturday arena stop for the Swedish pop star. The show is listed for 7:30 PM. The listing doesn't post a ticket price, so check the link before you make the trip to the West Loop.

Book Signing with Bill Crisafi: The Glam Reaper @ Foursided

Andersonville designer and illustrator Bill Crisafi signs his new book, The Glam Reaper's Guide to Slaying, at Foursided on Clark Street this afternoon. Crisafi calls it an irreverent, uplifting illustrated guide to slaying your inner demons and embracing your fabulous self, starring his fan-favorite Glam Reaper character.

It's free, runs 2 to 4 p.m., and books are for sale at the shop — or bring your own copy to have signed.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 13

Move at the Shed @ The Salt Shed

The Salt Shed's second annual Move at the Shed is a choose-your-own-adventure day of movement on Sunday. A free class pass gets you into the whole gamut — group runs, dance cardio, yoga, cold plunges and photo ops — and there's a ticketed Pilates class led by Keke Palmer if you want to level up.

It starts at 11 a.m. and it's free with that class pass. The Salt Shed sits in West Town, and the 9, 70 and 72 buses run nearby.

Books and Beats @ Dearborn Park

The Chicago Printers Guild and the Englewood Arts Collective bring Books & Beats to Dearborn Park on Sunday afternoon — part of the Park District's Night Out in the Parks series, with hands-on art-making for all ages and live music that includes beat-making.

It's free and runs noon to 2:30 p.m., outdoors in the park. Sunday cools off — a high around 72, overcast, with about a 1-in-3 chance of a shower — so keep an eye on the sky.

Chicago Exhibition Week @ Various locations

Looking ahead: the fourth annual Chicago Exhibition Week runs Monday, September 14 through Sunday the 20th, pulling together more than 70 institutions, galleries and programming partners across the city. Expect talks, workshops, performances, activations and parties, and — the best part — many of them are free.
