FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25

Beyond the Gate: Cate Le Bon & Horsegirl @ Bohemian National Cemetery

It's not every Friday you can catch a show inside a cemetery. Beyond the Gate brings live music to the Bohemian National Cemetery on North Pulaski, and tonight's bill pairs Cate Le Bon with Horsegirl and Kitship.

Music starts at 6PM at 5255 N Pulaski Rd. We didn't get a ticket price in the feed, so check the do312 listing for cost and full details before you make the trip.

St. Alphonsus Oktoberfest @ St. Alphonsus Church

Lakeview's St. Alphonsus Church turns its grounds over to Oktoberfest this weekend, and it leans all the way into the theme: suds, brats and pretzels, two stages of Bavarian music, and local cover bands (including an ABBA tribute billed as Dancing Queen). There's a stein-holding contest and polka dancing if you want to earn your beer, plus a Kinderfest for kids on Sunday.

Friday hours run 5 to 10PM, and it continues Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $10. The church is at 1429 W Wellington Ave; CTA buses 9, 11, 76 and 77 all get you close.

White Sox vs. Rockies: Hispanic Heritage Night @ Rate Field

If you'd rather spend the evening at the ballpark, the White Sox host the Colorado Rockies on Hispanic Heritage Night at Rate Field. First pitch is 6:40PM.

We the People: Public Art in Greektown

For a free way to fill an afternoon, the public art exhibit We the People: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Beauty runs along South Halsted Street through Greektown, from Madison to Van Buren. It marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with 40 artworks — indoor and outdoor — from 27 professional and emerging artists plus 13 more from around Chicagoland.

It's free and self-guided, so you set the pace. Much of the work is outdoors, and it's shaping up to be a gray, low-60s weekend, so dress for it.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26

Randolph Street Market Festival @ West Loop

The Randolph Street Market Festival is back Saturday for its European-style vintage and antique hunt — hundreds of vendors spread across the West Loop's Beaux Arts Plumbers Union Hall building, with food, cocktails and live music mixed in.

Doors open at 10AM; admission is $14. It's at 1340 W Washington Blvd — take the Green or Pink Line to Ashland/Lake, or buses 9, 20 or 65.

Beatdown Sound System: Vibrations of Freedom @ Ping Tom Park

Saturday afternoon in Chinatown, Beatdown Soundsystem sets up Vibrations of Freedom at Ping Tom Memorial Park — a free, all-ages sound-system session built around reggae, dub and vinyl selections. The Park District bills it as a community gathering to connect, dance and honor freedom through sound.

It runs 1 to 7PM and it's free. The park is at 300 W 19th St.

THIS WEEK

WingOut Chicago @ Gallagher Way

This weekend's big eat is WingOut Chicago, a two-day festival at Gallagher Way devoted entirely to the chicken wing, with cooks from spots like Jake Melnick's and Smoke Daddy putting their spin on the format across a range of sauces.

General admission (from $20) covers entry and access to the live entertainment; wings and drinks are à la carte on top of that, or you can go VIP for early entry, all-you-can-eat wings and a drink package. It runs Saturday and Sunday at 3637 N Clark St in Wrigleyville — Red Line to Addison, or buses 22 or 152.
