Friday lands about as easy as it gets: 76 and partly cloudy, no rain in the forecast — the kind of afternoon built for a day game and an evening spent outside. Saturday warms up into the high 80s, which is fitting, because the weekend leans into beer, hot dogs and, a week out, the season's biggest punk blowout. Here's where to point yourself.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11

Big Crown Records 10 Year Anniversary ft El Michels Affair, Brainstory & Thee Heart Tones @ Thalia Hall

Big Crown Records turns 10 and marks the milestone at Thalia Hall with a stacked bill: El Michels Affair, Brainstory and Thee Heart Tones all share the night. It's the label's anniversary show, so expect the roster to make it feel like an occasion.

Dance to Chinatown! at Armour Square Park

Yin He Dance presents Dance to Chinatown! at Armour Square Park, pairing dance performance with a market of local makers — the kind of free neighborhood afternoon that's easy to fold into a Friday.

It runs 4 to 7 PM at the park on South Shields Avenue in Chinatown, it's all ages, and there's no admission.

Chicago Cubs vs. Pittsburgh Pirates @ Wrigley Field

The Cubs host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field with a 1:20 PM first pitch. It's a Friday day game, and with clear skies on tap it's a fine excuse to start the weekend early on the North Side.

The Pieces by Aloft Circus Arts at Valley Forge

Aloft Circus Arts brings The Pieces to Valley Forge Park, and the premise is exactly as precarious as it sounds: six performers build giant, wobbly towers out of ladders, then climb and balance their way up. It's a high-flying, all-ages circus show told with no words — just acrobatics, suspense and plenty of "whoa" moments.

It's free and runs 6 to 7 PM out at the park on West 59th Street. No ticket needed.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

Revolution Oktoberfest

Revolution Brewing throws its annual Oktoberfest just outside the Avondale taproom on Saturday, with German food, beer, a lineup of live music and a stein-holding contest to sort out the strong of arm.

It kicks off at noon. The Blue Line to California drops you close, or you can catch the 52, 56 or 74 bus.

Hot Dog Eating Competition at Wiener Circle

The Wiener's Circle in Lincoln Park hosts a hot dog eating competition on Saturday, run by event company 2 Girls 1 Windy City: two rounds of contestants putting away 10 hot dogs apiece — no sipping water — split into male- and female-identifying fields.

It starts at 2 PM with doors at 1 PM, and tickets are $15. Take the Brown or Purple (rush hours) Line to Diversey.

ON THE HORIZON

Riot Fest 2026 @ Douglass Park

Riot Fest returns to Douglass Park September 18 to 20 — next Friday through Sunday — for three days of rock, punk, metal and emo, reliably one of the biggest music festivals of the season with a mix of legacy acts and emerging newcomers.

Three-day passes start at $320, gates open at 11 AM and music runs to 10 PM nightly. Getting to Douglass Park: the Blue Line to Kedzie-Homan or Western/Forest Park, or the Pink Line to California.
