FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16

PFL Chicago @ Wintrust Arena

Cage fighting takes over Wintrust Arena tonight, and the top of the card is a title fight: Liz Carmouche against Jena Bishop in a rematch for the inaugural PFL Women's Flyweight World Championship. Carmouche is a former Bellator champion and PFL tournament winner; Bishop brings a dangerous submission game into the biggest fight of her career.

The undercard keeps the stakes high, with undefeated featherweight Timur Khizriev taking on Gabriel Braga and a run of rising contenders filling out the night. The Professional Fighters League lists a 5:00 PM start at the South Loop arena.

Guerrero Leads Fandangos & Enigma Variations @ Orchestra Hall

Friday afternoon at Symphony Center belongs to Arturo Marquez's Fandango, the violin concerto that won a 2024 Latin Grammy. Written for Anne Akiko Meyers, it's a riotously colorful salute to the Spanish dance form and its New World offshoots, with Giancarlo Guerrero on the podium.

Framing it are Roberto Sierra's contemporary meditation on two 18th-century fandangos and Elgar's Enigma Variations, his set of musical portraits of family and friends. The program runs 1:30 to 3:30 PM today at Orchestra Hall, with a second performance Saturday evening at 7:30 — a good place to wait out the rain.

We the People @ Douglass Park

Hearing in Color brings its resident vocal ensemble, Chroma, to Douglass Park for We the People, a free concert the group describes as being about belonging and justice. The program features Chicago-based composers Ayanna Woods and Jalen Scott alongside selections inspired by artists like Beyonce.

Opening the evening are young musicians from Ravinia's Reach Teach Play — intermediate violin students from its Lawndale Family Music School, plus the adult choir. Admission is free and open to all ages; the music starts at 6:00 PM and wraps by 7:30.

A Dark Wood @ Greenhouse Theater Center

Tin Drum Theatre Company's Chicago premiere of A Dark Wood runs at the Greenhouse Theater Center on Lincoln Avenue. Written by Eric Coble and directed by Steve Needham, it's a dystopian fable: 'The Fix' was supposed to correct everything that had gone wrong with the country, and now three members of a shattered family — Earthworm, Hummingbird and Armadillo — occupy different corners of a collapsing society, each surviving in their own way.

The run stretches from October 15 through November 1, with a post-show talk-back with the playwright on a select date and an understudy performance on October 31. Tonight's curtain is 7:30 PM; tickets are $29.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17

BooPalooza & BarkPalooza @ Wicker Park

Wicker Park throws its Halloween bash Saturday: BooPalooza and BarkPalooza, a free, all-ages extravaganza with free pumpkins, live entertainment, costume parades and a haunted maze. Bring the dog for BarkPalooza, which adds a canine costume parade and contest.

It runs 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and costs nothing to walk in — a dry, overcast forecast should hold for the morning.

Draglicious @ Hydrate Nightclub

Saturday night, Hydrate Nightclub on North Halsted hosts Draglicious, a weekly drag show the venue bills as a night of glitz and glam with top-tier entertainers running through the greatest hits. The show starts at 9:00 PM and cover is $10.

ON THE HORIZON

Manhattan Vintage @ Morgan MFG

The NYC vintage market that draws names like Brooke Shields, Molly Rogers and Law Roach makes its first-ever Chicago appearance later this month, taking over Morgan MFG in Fulton Market on October 24 and 25. It's the inaugural edition, billed as the first of two planned each year.

Expect curated racks from New York show regulars like Closet Case Vintage, Elite Repeat and Molimo. Admission starts at $25, and the market is open both Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25.
