Steve Lacy: Oh yeah? Tour @ Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom

Steve Lacy brings his 27-city "Oh yeah?" tour to the Aragon tonight, celebrating his newly released third studio album. The Grammy-winning R&B and neo-soul artist takes over a hall that's stood in Uptown since 1926.

It's an all-ages show with a 7:00 PM start at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Uptown.

World Music Wednesdays: Ballaké Sissoko & Piers Faccini / Minyo Crusaders @ Old Town School of Folk Music

Old Town School of Folk Music hands its Maurer Concert Hall to a global bill tonight, pairing Ballaké Sissoko and Piers Faccini with the Minyo Crusaders. It's part of the weekly World Music Wednesdays series — a showcase of the best local and touring world music and dance.

Admission is free with a $10 suggested donation, and advance reservations are recommended to guarantee entry — unclaimed reservations are released to walk-ups 10 minutes before showtime. Shows in the series typically start Wednesday nights at 7:30 PM.

Wine, Cheese, and Keys @ Barrel Cheese and Wine

Katy on Keys plays a request-driven piano set at Barrel Cheese and Wine, where you help build the night's playlist and the volume stays low enough to actually talk. It's a warm, low-key way to sit out the rain.

It runs 6:30–9:30 PM with no cover to walk in; the Wednesday special is $49 for a bottle of wine and three cheeses. Find it in Lakeview.

NoMI Gallery: Everything is Bright. All Things are Beautiful. @ NoMI

NoMI's gallery is showing a solo exhibition by artist Dwight Hwang built around gyotaku — the traditional Japanese art of making a direct impression from a fish using the specimen itself, ink and paper. The form dates to the mid-1800s, when fishermen used it to record their catches before photography.

Hwang's work explores nature, movement and preservation. It's on view at NoMI on the 7th floor in the Gold Coast, a prelude to the restaurant's Imprint Experience later this fall. Check the listing for viewing details.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1

Black Lagoon @ Albion Manor

Spooky season gets a bar of its own: Black Lagoon, a horror-themed cocktail pop-up, takes over Albion Manor with metal music and goth decor. It opens Thursday, October 1 and runs through the end of the month.

The menu leans into the theme — Abyssa's Obsession is built on pumpkin-infused rums and the Bone Temple is tequila-based — and several drinks arrive in Halloween glassware you can buy to take home. Find it in Lincoln Park; check the listing for hours.

The 5th Annual Latina Comedy Festival @ The Lincoln Lodge

The Latina Comedy Festival returns for a fifth year and takes over all three theaters at The Lincoln Lodge in Logan Square — three days, eighteen shows, entirely built around Latina comedians running stand-up showcases and headline sets.

It runs Thursday, October 1 through Saturday, October 3. Tickets are $20.

ON THE HORIZON

Sumo + Sushi @ The Fields Studios

Sumo + Sushi, a traveling sumo experience, makes its Chicago stop this weekend at The Fields Studios in Avondale. Each show opens with an introduction to the history and rituals of sumo, then moves into live exhibition matches.

It's only in town this weekend — Friday, October 2 through Sunday, October 4. A "Get in the Ring" option lets six guests per session face off against the wrestlers in front of the crowd, and a Sushi + Show upgrade adds a sushi bento box, miso soup and mochi from a local sushi restaurant.

Tickets start at $103; the Friday and Saturday evening shows are 21+ while the Sunday shows are all ages, in Avondale.
