THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15
The Main Squeeze @ Harris Theater for Music and Dance
Indiana-bred funk-rock outfit The Main Squeeze opens the Harris Theater's 2026-27 season tonight with a 6 p.m. start that's early by design, so you still get your evening back. The five-piece has spent a decade building an optimistic, electrifying sound that got them touring alongside George Clinton and Parliament Funk; NPR once credited them with "groovy instrumentals filled with distinct scratch breaks to re-energize your spirit." They last appeared on this stage backing the Joffrey Ballet, so this is a homecoming of sorts.
Music starts at 6 p.m. at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance on East Randolph Drive; ticket details are on the event page. On a night the forecast calls for rain, a concert hall is an easy call.
A Dark Wood @ Greenhouse Theater Center
Tin Drum Theatre Company launches the world premiere of A Dark Wood tonight, a dystopian fable by Broadway playwright Eric Coble. "The Fix" was supposed to correct everything that had gone wrong with the country; instead, three members of a shattered family are left surviving in the corners of a collapsing society. Earthworm squats in no-man's-land beside his only friend, desperate to cross the river border; Hummingbird hides in a boarded-up apartment, reading books with a fugitive teacher.
Tickets are $34 for the 7:30 p.m. opening at the Greenhouse Theater Center on North Lincoln Avenue, and the run continues through November 1. An indoor night of theater beats the rain outside.
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Winnipeg Jets @ United Center
The Blackhawks host the Winnipeg Jets at the United Center tonight, a 7 p.m. start and an easy answer to "what do I do on a wet Thursday" if you'd rather watch someone else work in the cold. The United Center sits in the West Loop; ticket and start-time details are on the event page.
World Fashion Festival 2026 Opening Night @ Navy Pier
The World Fashion Festival opens at Navy Pier tonight with international runway collections from Jesica Cardoba of Argentina, Colombia's NKF Atelier and the Dominican Republic's Jeanette Limas - a global slate for a first night. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m., and the organizer lists after-party access running until midnight.
Tickets are $50; it's at Navy Pier in Streeterville, and the festival continues with a separate lineup on Friday, October 16 - check the event page for that night's details.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16
Hispanic Heritage Celebration @ Humboldt Park Cultural Center
Friday evening, the Humboldt Park Cultural Center throws a free Hispanic Heritage Celebration built like a trip across Latin America. It opens at 5 p.m. with art installations exploring different countries' cultures and traditions, moves into live park performances at 7, and peaks at 8 with an Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba set by Los Medicos.
It runs 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, October 16, it's free, and it's open to all ages, held indoors at the Cultural Center. "Come travel through Latin America," as the organizers put it.
The Park After Dark @ Chase Park
Chase Park's annual haunted house returns Friday night, and the pitch is that it's never the same twice - every year the advisory council transforms the park's old theater into a brand-new haunted experience, with a different theme each time. Proceeds go to the Chase Park Teen Club.
Tickets are $16 and must be bought in advance online; the house runs 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 16. It's billed for all ages, but the organizers advise against it for kids under 10, and under-13s should have a parent along. The haunted house takes over the park's old theater on North Ashland Avenue.
ON THE HORIZON
Big Lebowski Costume Party & Concert @ Timber Lanes
Looking to Saturday: North Center's Timber Lanes is throwing a Big Lebowski costume party and concert for spooky season, with a costume contest (prizes included) and a ticket that covers both bowling and live music. The bill runs The Bart Attacks and Rochambeau plus solo sets from Marty Bennett and Damon Groen.
It's $20, starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 17 - one night only. Timber Lanes is at 1851 W Irving Park Road; the Brown Line stops at Irving Park, or the 11 and 80 buses run nearby. Dress like the Dude and the Brown Line drops you at the door.
