This Week Downtown: Free Grant Park Concerts All Week

Your week-ahead guide to Downtown Chicago — 5 picks worth planning around

By Raj Singh · Published June 10, 2026.

The Grant Park Music Festival anchors the week with free outdoor concerts at Pritzker Pavilion — Bernstein's West Side Story tonight, Brahms' Fourth Symphony on Friday. Both are genuinely world-class performances at no cost, which never gets old. Kinky Boots is running its Chicago premiere at the Nederlander, and the Tall Ship Windy has fireworks cruises on the river both tonight.

WEDNESDAY 6/10

Grant Park Music Festival: Bernstein West Side Story @ Jay Pritzker Pavilion

The Grant Park Orchestra plays Bernstein's full West Side Story score in the open air — free, lawn seating, bring a blanket. Gates at 6 PM, music at 6:30. The Pavilion's Gehry trellis frames the skyline behind the stage, which is still one of the best views in the city.

WEDNESDAY 6/10

Fireworks Cruise Aboard the Tall Ship Windy

The 148-foot Tall Ship Windy sails out for lakefront fireworks Wednesday evening — departing from Navy Pier, 8:45 PM. Limited capacity; book ahead at tallshipwindy.com. Streeterville. A glass of wine on a tall ship while fireworks reflect off the lake is as Chicago as it gets.

ONGOING THROUGH SUMMER

Kinky Boots @ James M. Nederlander Theatre

The Tony-winning musical (Best Musical + Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album) is running its Chicago production at the Nederlander on Randolph St. Worth catching mid-week when tickets are most available. Cindy's Rooftop (12 S Michigan) is a few blocks east for a pre-show drink with the skyline.

FRIDAY 6/12

Grant Park Music Festival: Brahms Symphony No. 4 @ Jay Pritzker Pavilion

The second free Grant Park concert of the week — Brahms' Fourth is one of the great autumnal symphonies, which makes it an unexpectedly good pairing with a warm June night. Same setup: 6:30 PM, free lawn, bring a blanket. Friday crowds are bigger but so is the energy.

SATURDAY 6/13

5th Annual Chicago Scavenger Hunt: The Crossroads of Chicago

A self-guided team scavenger hunt through the Loop, starting at 9 AM. Good for groups of 4-6, roughly 3 hours, and it covers architecture and history most locals don't know. Register at the event page. Finish at The Berghoff (17 W Adams) for sausage and a dark beer.
