This Week Downtown: Free Music in Millennium Park
Your week-ahead guide to Downtown — 5 picks worth planning around
By Raj Singh · Published June 21, 2026.
A soggy start downtown — heavy rain through Monday in the mid-60s — but it dries out to overcast by Tuesday, which is good news for a week heavy on free outdoor concerts in Millennium Park. Pack a layer and an umbrella early, then plan your evenings around Pritzker.
SUNDAY 6/21
Gold Coast Art Fair @ Grant Park
A 68-year-old Chicago tradition takes over Grant Park with hundreds of artists, makers, and food vendors. Free to wander; rain is in the forecast, so the booths may be tented — go early before it picks up.
Warm up afterward at Wildberry on E. Randolph — the toasted oatmeal-crusted French toast is the move when it is this gray out.
MONDAY 6/22
Millennium Park Summer Music Series @ Millennium Park
The free Monday-night series at the Pritzker Pavilion is back. Bring a blanket for the Great Lawn; music starts at 6:30 PM and the lawn fills fast on a dry evening.
Grab a martini and the chilled crab at Cindy’s rooftop atop the Chicago Athletic Association first — it looks straight out over the park.
TUESDAY 6/23
The Human League, Soft Cell & Alison Moyet @ The Chicago Theatre
The Generations Tour brings three titans of ‘80s synth-pop under the Chicago Theatre marquee for one night, 7:30 PM. A nostalgia-soaked, sing-every-word kind of show.
Pre-show, the deviled eggs and a Vesper at The Dearborn, a few blocks down on Dearborn St.
WEDNESDAY 6/24
Barber Violin Concerto @ Jay Pritzker Pavilion
Kalena Bovell leads the Grant Park Orchestra through Samuel Barber’s wistful Violin Concerto with soloist Will Hagen — free, under the Gehry bandshell. Classic Chicago summer.
Pack a picnic, or grab the hot chicken from Antique Taco inside Revival Food Hall to-go and eat it on the lawn.
THURSDAY 6/25
Iceboy! The Musical @ Goodman Theatre
From the Mark Hollmann (Urinetown) camp, this new musical was extended through August by popular demand. Curtain at 7:30 PM in the Loop.
Goodman is steps from Petterino’s — get the chicken parm before the show, like every theatergoer before you.
