This Week in West Loop: James Beard Awards Night, The Strokes at United Center

Your week-ahead guide to the West Loop — 3 anchor events from Beard Awards Sunday brunch to The Strokes mid-week.

The West Loop has two anchor moments this week and a strong preamble. Sunday's James Beard Foundation brunch at The Publican kicks off the national Awards Weekend — the culinary world descends on the neighborhood for two days before the ceremony Monday night at the Lyric Opera House. Then Wednesday evening belongs entirely to The Strokes, who bring the Reality Awaits World Tour to United Center in support of their first new album in years.

SUNDAY 6/14 — JBF Greens Chicago x The Publican: 2026 Awards Weekend Brunch (West Loop)

The James Beard Foundation's Greens chapter throws its official Awards Weekend brunch at The Publican — chef/partner Paul Kahan's farm-to-table West Loop anchor, led in the butcher program by Rob Levitt. This is a ticketed industry event, but if you're connected to the food world or just want Sunday brunch in the orbit of the year's biggest food awards weekend, this is the room to be in.

The Publican, 837 W. Fulton Market. 11:30AM. Tickets via the James Beard Foundation. Already in the neighborhood: Avec (615 W. Randolph) opens for dinner at 3:30PM — order the chorizo-stuffed Medjool dates, which are non-negotiable.

MONDAY 6/15 — James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards @ Lyric Opera House (West Loop)

The James Beard Awards — the Oscars of American food — return to Chicago for their annual ceremony at the Lyric Opera House. Red carpet arrivals, the full awards ceremony, and decades' worth of culinary talent in one building on Wacker Drive. Winners are announced across Best New Restaurant, Outstanding Chef, regional chef categories, and more. You don't need tickets to enjoy the energy: the restaurants along Randolph and Fulton will be buzzing all evening with nominees, journalists, and industry celebrants.

Lyric Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Dr. 6:00PM. Tickets extremely limited — but the pre- and post-ceremony dining scene is where the real conversations happen. Try to get into Girl & the Goat (800 W. Randolph) or just walk Randolph and see who's out.

WEDNESDAY 6/17 — The Strokes: Reality Awaits World Tour @ United Center (West Loop)

The Strokes bring their Reality Awaits World Tour to United Center this Wednesday — the tour supporting their seventh studio album, Reality Awaits, dropping June 26. This is the rare arena show where the setlist will blend new material with classic cuts from Is This It and Room on Fire, and Julian Casablancas can still deliver them. If you liked the Strokes at any point in your life, this is worth it at United Center scale.

United Center, 1901 W. Madison St. 7:00PM. Tickets at ticketmaster.com. Pre-show: Au Cheval (800 W. Randolph) does Chicago's best smash burger — arrive 90 minutes early to eat without rushing.
