WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14
Acid Mothers Temple, Magick Potion & Spiral Galaxy @ Reggies
Acid Mothers Temple has spent decades turning psychedelic rock into something bigger, stranger and more cosmic. Formed in Japan in the mid-'90s, the collective is known for sprawling live jams, heavy improvisation and full-on space-rock chaos, with a catalog that feels practically endless. Baltimore's Magick Potion opens with a fuzzed-out mix of heavy rock and late-'60s/early-'70s psychedelia, and Spiral Galaxy rounds out the bill with dreamy, experimental psych.
It lands at Reggies on South State Street. The show is 17+ and starts at 7 PM — an indoor way to spend a foggy Wednesday night.
Pulitzer on the Road @ Harold Washington Library Center
Opening today at the Harold Washington Library Center, Pulitzer on the Road is a free traveling exhibition — a collaboration between the Pulitzer Prizes and the American Library Association — tracing the history and significance of the Pulitzers, the highest honor in American journalism and among the most prestigious in books, drama and music.
It's open to the public and free to attend, which makes the Loop's flagship library an easy, dry stop on a gray week. Opening day is Wednesday, October 14 — a good excuse to catch it on day one.
We the People @ West Ridge Nature Park
Hearing in Color brings its resident vocal ensemble, Chroma, to West Ridge Nature Park for We the People, a concert about belonging and justice staged as a 'song walk' that visits four spots around the lagoon. Part of the Chroma in the Parks series, the program features music by Chicago composers like Ayanna Woods and Jalen Scott alongside selections inspired by Beyoncé, blending contemporary classical works with reimagined favorites.
It's free, all ages, and runs 5 to 6 PM. The listing notes that in the event of rain the program moves indoors to Green Briar Park — worth keeping in mind given the week's forecast.
Empty Bottle Art Show @ Empty Bottle
For one night, the Empty Bottle swaps amps for artwork — the Ukrainian Village music club turns into a gallery-style hang packed with local creativity. It's a low-key, indoor midweek plan for an evening the fog has already grayed out.
It's free and 21+, so you can browse the art, grab a drink, and see the room in a completely different light. Doors are at 6 PM.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15
Lincoln Park Art Night
Five galleries across Lincoln Park and Old Town open their doors for Lincoln Park Art Night, a free evening celebrating the neighborhoods' art scene. Hop-on/hop-off vans circulate all night, so you can gallery-hop between stops without getting soaked — handy on a Thursday the forecast has pegged for rain. It runs 5:30 to 8:30 PM.
Fright at the Field @ The Field Museum
Spooky season has taken over the Field Museum. Fright at the Field brings back Underground MISAdventure and adds Halloween Harvest Maze, a new takeover of the Plants of the World hall, plus a hunt for seven creepy-cool specimens — Witch's Hat Fungus and the Vampire Bat among them — to complete Chompy's Secret Lair challenge for a prize.
It runs daily through November 1, which makes the South Loop museum a solid indoor plan for a rain-soaked Thursday.
ON THE HORIZON
Jonas Brothers @ Allstate Arena
Nearly 20 years after the original Burnin' Up Tour, the Jonas Brothers are hitting rewind with The Burning Up Tour All Over Again, and they're stopping at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont for one night — Thursday, October 22. Expect the nostalgia-bait hits: 'Burnin' Up,' 'BB Good,' 'Hold On' and more.
The show is set for 7:30 PM. With a single arena date on the calendar, this is a plan-ahead ticket rather than a walk-up.
