What to expect

The inaugural Chicago Italian Beef Fest takes over Jefferson Memorial Park July 31-August 2, 2026. SEM frames it as a tribute to the city's iconic dipped/dry/hot/sweet Italian beef sandwich, with attendees sampling, comparing, and voting for Best Italian Beef Sandwich. It is also the reimagined Jeff Fest: two music stages, crafters, sponsors, and a large kids area in a neighborhood park setting.

Tickets

Ticketed event: $10 per day per person. Kids 17 and under are free with a paid parent or guardian. Tickets include access to 8+ beef vendors, crafters, sponsors, two entertainment stages, and the kids area. Chairs and blankets are welcome.

Transit

Blue Line to Jefferson Park is a 5-minute walk — one of the better-served fests on the Northwest Side. Metra Union Pacific Northwest line to Jefferson Park drops at the same hub. The 81 Lawrence and 56 Milwaukee buses also serve. Driving is OK — Jefferson Park has surface lots and the Blue Line garage.

Bag policy

No formal bag check; ID at beer tents.

Family-friendly

Designed family-friendly — Jefferson Park's audience leans suburban-family, kids' zone is on the program, and beef sandwiches are a kid-friendly food. Stroller-easy on the wide park footprint. Restrooms via porta-johns and the park building.

Food and drink

  • Bust Outs — Chicago comfort-food vendor listed by SEM.

  • Chicago Dog House — Chicago classics with creative twists.

Local tips

  1. First-year fest — expect rough edges Friday night; Saturday is usually when an inaugural fest dials in.
  2. Order half-portions or 'dip sample' rather than full sandwiches to compare 4–5 stands.
  3. Vote People's Choice — your wristband is the ballot. The first-year winner gets bragging rights.
  4. Wet vs. dipped: the dipped sandwiches drip; bring napkins or eat over the table.
  5. Italian beef is salt-bomb food — alternate with water and the sweet-pepper or giardiniera sides for balance.
  6. Pair with a stop at the Copernicus Center (Jefferson Park's Polish-American venue) one block away.
  7. Skip if you're a vegetarian — there's almost no veg programming at this fest by definition.
