Best-of-Chicago drag performances. Chicago Gay Men's Chorus. Guest speakers. 150+ food and merch vendors. Sunday at noon: Proud Pet Parade with Miss Foozie. Transit
CTA Red Line → Addison or Sheridan. Multiple bus routes (with reroutes near festival). Cab/Uber/Lyft fine but expect road closures. Divvy stations nearby. Limited street parking; Whole Foods garage open during regular hours via Waveland west of Halsted.
Bag policy
Bag inspection at entry. No large bags/backpacks. No coolers, weapons, pepper spray, firearms. Clear sealed plastic water bottles allowed. Empty reusable water bottles okay. Leashed dogs welcome.
Family-friendly
Daytime = totally fine for the baby with stroller. Plenty of space, vibrant atmosphere, family pet-friendly. Evenings get adult-skewing and bar-crowd dense — head out before 8pm with a baby.
History
Chicago Pride Fest — organized by the Northalsted Business Alliance — was established in 2001 as a two-day street festival celebrating LGBTQ+ life in Chicago's Northalsted neighborhood, the first officially recognized LGBTQ+ district in any major U.S. city (designated by the city in 1997). Now in its 25th annual edition, the festival draws more than 100,000 attendees across Halsted Street between Addison and Grace, featuring three stages of live music, drag revues, the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus, and the annual Proud Pet Parade — all held the weekend before the Chicago Pride Parade.
Local tips
- Main gates: Halsted & Addison, Halsted & Waveland, and Broadway & Waveland — Halsted & Waveland is usually shorter line
- Pride Parade is the following Sunday June 28 — totally separate event, draws 1M+ spectators, much more crowded
- Sunday Proud Pet Parade kickoff at 12pm South Stage — pure joy, dog-friendly photo op
- Don't miss the 14 Rainbow Crosswalks throughout Northalsted year-round
- If you go to both Pride Fest AND the Parade: Fest is the chiller, more festival-y experience; Parade is overwhelming crowd-energy
Frequently asked questions
Is there an admission fee?
A $20 suggested donation is requested at the gates. The donation is not mandatory, but it helps pay performers and festival staff and supports local nonprofits and Northalsted community programs. All ages are welcome.
What are the festival hours?
Both days run 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21. The Proud Pet Parade takes place Sunday at noon on the North Stage.
Is Chicago Pride Fest all ages?
Yes — the event is all ages. A dedicated Teen Pride Space (ages 12–18) operates 11 a.m.–5 p.m. both days, and a Senior Space is available for guests 55 and older.
How do I get there by CTA?
Take the CTA Red Line to Addison (near the south end of the festival) or to Belmont (served by the Red, Brown, and Purple Lines, near the north end). Multiple bus lines also run along Halsted and Broadway. Expect road closures — CTA is the recommended option.
What is Chicago Pride Fest vs. the Chicago Pride Parade?
They are two separate events. Chicago Pride Fest is the two-day street festival (June 20–21, 2026) on Halsted Street featuring live music, drag, and vendors. The Chicago Pride Parade is a one-day march (June 28, 2026) along Halsted and Broadway. Both are organized by groups in the Northalsted neighborhood but are distinct events.
What can I expect on-site?
Three stages of live music and drag performances, dance exhibitions, the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus, guest speakers, a Youth Pride Space for teens, a Senior Space, and over 150 food and merchandise vendors. A new VIP area with express entry, covered lounges, and air-conditioned facilities is available for 2026.
