Chicago SummerDance

DCASE’s free citywide dance series: live music, beginner-friendly lessons, and pop-ups in parks and cultural events throughout July and August.

  • Dates: July–August 2026 (select dates)
  • Where: Citywide parks and Spirit of Music Garden
  • Neighborhood: Citywide
  • Cost: Free

What to expect

A free civic gem: professional instructors teach before live bands or DJs, then the floor opens up. It is less about performance polish and more about Chicagoans trying salsa, swing, stepping, cumbia, line dance, and folk styles together.

Tickets

Free admission. Some partner venues may have capacity or seating quirks, but DCASE frames SummerDance as free public programming.

Transit

Check each date’s park or venue. For Grant Park/Spirit of Music Garden sessions, CTA downtown and Metra Electric make the most sense.

Family-friendly

Generally family-friendly and beginner-friendly. Evening park sessions may run late for small kids depending on location.

Local tips

  1. This is the rare series where showing up with no skill is the point.
  2. Wait for DCASE’s full schedule before planning around a specific dance style.
  3. Great low-cost date night if you pick a style you are both slightly nervous to try.
