How it was

This year's edition is over — the lineup, schedule, and notes below are kept as the record of 2026.

What to expect

North Center's BBQ block party along Lincoln Ave between Irving Park Rd and Berteau, plus the Damen and Irving Park spurs, June 5–7, 2026. 50,000+ pounds of ribs and BBQ from 20+ vendors competing for the People's Choice trophy, multiple music stages running rock and country headliners, sit-down lounges with table service, and a kids' area. Friday 4–10 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon–10 p.m.

Transit

Brown Line to Irving Park is one block from the festival's south entrance. The 80 Irving Park and 50 Damen buses serve the north and west edges. Driving is rough — North Center streets are permit-only and the parking garages on Lincoln are limited. Divvy at Irving/Lincoln is reliable.

Bag policy

No formal bag check; visual at gates. ID checked at beer tents.

Family-friendly

One of the more genuinely family-friendly fests — actual kids' zone with activities, the wide Lincoln Ave footprint takes a stroller easily, and ribs (cut up) are a kid-friendly food. Saturday before 4 p.m. and Sunday afternoon are the family sweet spots; Friday night is louder. No formal nursing area.

Local tips

  1. Order the rib sampler ($15–20 range) at three different vendors and you've effectively done the festival — committing to one full slab is a rookie move.
  2. Arrive 11:30 a.m. Saturday for the first batches off the smokers — they're best in the early hours.
  3. Lincoln Ave and Damen funnel cross-breezes that scatter smoke; the seating areas on Berteau are calmer if you want to actually taste the food without smoke fatigue.
  4. Sunday afternoon is the lightest crowd day — same vendors, same ribs, no waiting.
  5. Vote in the People's Choice — your wristband is the ballot.
  6. Look for the craft cocktail booth — it's the surprise drink play and better than the standard beer tents.
  7. Eat lighter than you think — rib fatigue is real by hour two.
