2. Sat, Sept. 26 — Ping Tom Park & Martyrs': Beatdown Sound System's Vibrations of Freedom at Ping Tom Memorial Park, 1–7pm (all ages); Elida Almeida and Luciano Antonio & Heitor Garcia at Martyrs', 9pm (21+).

What to expect

DCASE's 26th annual citywide world-music festival, Sept. 25–Oct. 4, 2026 — 10 days of free shows across the city. Highlights include the overnight Ragamala Indian classical marathon at the Chicago Cultural Center, a bomba-to-salsa afternoon on the Riverwalk, The Saami Brothers at the Logan Center, Ballaké Sissoko & Piers Faccini with Minyo Crusaders at Old Town School, The Klezmatics and Los Vega at the Beverly Arts Center, and a closing Global Peace Party at Humboldt Park.

Depends on venue. Pritzker shows: any Loop CTA stop. Old Town School of Folk Music (4544 N. Lincoln, Lincoln Square): Brown Line to Western. National Museum of Mexican Art (1852 W. 19th, Pilsen): Pink Line to 18th. Reva and David Logan Center (915 E. 60th, Hyde Park): Metra Electric to 59th. All venues CTA-accessible.

Plenty of all-ages daytime shows (Ping Tom Park, the Riverwalk, Beverly Arts Center, the Humboldt Park Global Peace Party); several evening club shows are 21+.

Local tips

1. The best plan is not one night; it is two or three venues in different parts of the city over the 10-day run.
2. Small rooms fill first. For Old Town School, the Logan Center, the South Asia Institute and club shows, arrive early.
3. Use the festival as discovery, not confirmation bias. Pick at least one artist whose country, instrument, or genre you cannot immediately place.
4. Check age limits by show: daytime park events are all-ages, while several club nights are 21+.
5. Bring a transit mindset. This festival rewards CTA/Metra hopping more than parking plans.
